Over 4,000 Indian Sikh yatrees arrived here on Thursday to participate in the 536th birth anniversary celebrations of Sikh religion founder Baba Guru Nanak.

Evacuee Property Trust Board (EPTB) Chairman Lieutenant General Zulfiqar Ali Khan (Retd) received the Sikh yatrees at Wagha railway station where special arrangements were made to facilitate them. The visitors were provided food and other facilities.

For the first time they were given permission letters for three-day stay in Nankana Sahib at Wagha railway station.

During their nine-day stay in Pakistan, Sikh yatrees will also visit their sacred places at Hasanabdal, Sheikhupura, Gujranwala and Nankana Sahib. A seminar and Mehfil-e-Mushaira have also been arranged on this occasion.

Prime Minister Shaukat Aziz, Punjab Chief Minister Chaudhry Pervaiz Elahi and Federal Minister Ijaz ul Haq will hold separate meetings with the delegations of Sikh yatrees.

While talking to Business Recorder EPTB Chairman Zulfiqar Ali Khan said special arrangements had been made for facilitating the visiting Sikh yatrees. He said millions of rupees were spent on the renovation of gurudawaras. He said three five-star hotels and a langar hall were being constructed for the facilitation of Sikh yatrees. He said the Sikh community had provided generous aid for the earthquake victims.
